JoSAA 2020: Counselling date, Schedule, Registration, Seat Allotment

JoSAA Registration process is going to start from 3rd week of June 2020. After the registration process is over, JoSAA Seat Allotment Procedure will start. The result of JoSAA will come out in an online mode and the candidates will be able to check their JoSAA Seat Allotment Result Round wise through the JoSAA Login. Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) is the JEE Main 2020 Counselling body that will organize the process of Counseling for the candidates who excel in JEE Main 2020. The organization is set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) manages and regulates the joint seat allocations for the admissions to around 100 institutes for the academic year 2020 -21. There are around 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 23 IIITs, and 23 Other GFTIs that are Participating Institutes for JoSAA 2020. The list of all the participating Institutes has mentioned here as well as the official website – josaa.nic.in. The candidates who appeared in the JEE Main 2020 would have to Register themselves through JoSAA Registration 2020

JoSAA Seat Allotment process 2020

All the candidates who will register for JoSAA 2020 will take part for the JoSAA Counselling 2020. JoSAA Seat Allotment is the procedure of providing the expected seats for the candidates based on their ranks, their choices, and preferences. The process of JoSAA Seat Allotment is carried out in 7 rounds. Expected candidates can choose to freeze their seats, slide their seats or float their seats. Check the complete process below.

What Are Multiple Rounds Of JoSAA Seat Allotment 2020?

For the Josaa 2020 Seat Allocation Procedure, JoSAA will conduct multiple rounds for the Joint Seat Allocation. In the year 2019, JoSAA conducted 7 rounds of Counseling for the candidates to allocate them the seats in Reputed, Participating Institutes. JoSAA 2020 will announce the Opening and Closing Ranks for each of participating Institutes for every Engineering Programme available in the respective Institute. Once a candidate has registered for the JoSAA 2020, need not do so for each round of the Counseling.

JEE Main 2020 Counseling Round 1 will start with the admissions for the candidates who have the Top Ranks starting from 1st Rank. The institutes would invite the candidates to fill in as many seats as available. If the seats are not completely filled in Round 1 subsequent Counseling rounds would be conducted. 

JoSAA 2020 Eligibility Criteria

The candidates who are appearing in the JEE Main 2020 will be registering themselves for the JoSAA 2020 for the counseling purposes at the time of the evnet. The candidates must fulfill the Eligibility Criteria before Registration. JEE Main Counseling 2020 would be conducted for the candidates who have cleared the JEE Main 2020 Exam. Only the candidates who have appeared in JEE Advanced 2020 will be able to apply for IITs too. Following Eligibility Criteria must be followed.

  • The candidates must have appeared in the JEE Main 2020 and cleared the examination.
  • It is necessary that the candidate has obtained the Rank less than 2,24,000 in the JEE Main 2020  Ranks.
  • Seats for the candidates would be allotted based on the Reservation Category.

  • Earlier, candidates more than the age of 25 years were not allowed to appear for JEE Main 2020 Counseling but until the latest orders, the candidates can register themselves and apply for the admissions provisionally.
  • The candidates aspiring for the admission in IITs must have cleared the JEE Advanced 2020.
  • Following Qualifying Examinations must be cleared for admissions in respective institutes.

JoSAA Registration & Choices Filling 2020

Joint Seat Allocation Authority will provide an exclusive Candidate’s Login Portal for the candidate to Register for JoSAA 2020. JoSAA Registration 2020 will start from 3rd week of June 2020. The candidates who miss the chance or do not register through JoSAA 2020, will not be able to seek admissions for this academic year. The candidates once registered will be required to Lock in their Choices of Name of Institutes. Also, they would be setting the Preferences for the Admissions in the respective Institutes.

Choice Filling And Locking Choices

JoSAA 2020  will allow the candidate to choose their preferences for the College through JoSAA 2020  Registration. The candidate would fill in their choices and arrange them in the order of preferences of their College. JEE Main Counseling 2020 would be conducted for the candidates to get their admissions in the chosen colleges and institutes. Based on the Rankings, the candidate would be allotted their seats on their choice of College according to their Preferences.

How To Do Register For JoSAA 2020?

Joint Seat Allocation Authority will invite the candidates to register themselves for the JEE Main Counseling 2020. The candidates can register themselves through the official website – josaa.nic.in. We have also provided  the direct link from which they can register themselves for the Counseling purposes. To Register in Josaa 2020, candidates have to follow these Steps:

  • Visit the official website – josaa.nic.in
  • Log in using your JEE Main 2020 / JEE Advanced 2020 Login Credentials.
  • Fill in your personal Details like Name, Date of Birth and other important entries.
  • Submit your JEE Main 2020 / JEE Advanced 2020 Scores.
  • Enter your Rank.
  • Submit your Phone Number, Registered Email ID if required.
  • Submit the choices of Institutes based on the programs you wish to apply for.
  • Verify the details and submit.
  • Take a print if need be.

How To Align Preferences Of Colleges / Institutes?

Once the candidates have registered themselves, they can log in to the JoSAA 2020  Candidate’s Portal and Align their Preferences. The candidates have to set their preferences in order of the choice they want the admission in respective colleges. Follow these steps to Align the Preferences of Institutes for JoSAA 2020.

  • Use the login ID and Password and log into the JoSAA 2020 Portal.
  • Check the choices and choose the first preferences.
  • The first preference would be the first Institute or College that could be allotted to you with your ranks.
  • Arrange all the preferences in the same fashion.
  • Submit your Preferences.
  • Lock your Preferences.
  • If the candidate does not lock their preferences, the last saved choices would be locked on the last date of Registration.

JoSAA Login 2020

To access the official website of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority, the candidate is required to have JoSAA Login 2020. The candidates can use their JEE Main Login 2020 to access and register for JoSAA 2020. The same can be termed as JoSAA Login 2020 for JoSAA Counseling 2020. The Registration Number / Application Number & Password is supposed to be saved with the candidates since the time of JEE Main Applications. Remember, you can retrieve your Application Number if lost from Official website of National Testing Agency.

JoSAA 2020 Opening And Closing Ranks

For each round of JEE Main Counseling, JoSAA 2020  will release an Opening Rank and Closing Rank. What do we mean by Opening and Closing Rank? Let us see.

Opening Rank:

The topmost Rank (e.g. Rank 1 in Round 1) is the Opening Rank of the Institute for the particular round. In the subsequent JoSAA 2020  Counseling, these Opening Rank will be the Rank of the Candidate Eligible for the First Seat in the particular Course of the respective Institutes.

Closing Rank:

The Last Rank of the candidate eligible for the last seat in the particular Course of the Respective Institute is termed as the Closing Rank. The candidates with Ranks lower than the Closing Rank will not be able to score the Seat in the particular College for the Programme they have applied in the respective JEE Main 2020  Counseling Round. Though they can still wait for the Subsequent Rounds of Counseling for the allotment of the seats in particular College for a course. Previous year opening and closing rank:

Rank List for JoSAA 2020

Joint Seat Allocation Authority will announce the Rank List for JoSAA 2020 for the candidates based on their scores in final JEE Main Result 2020, which will be announced in April 2020. By next few weeks, the National Testing Agency will also announce the Ranks for the candidates generally based on their scores in the JEE Main January Session 2020 and JEE Main April Session 2020. Based on the categories of candidates and aggregate marks secured in JEE Main/Advanced 2020 JoSAA 2020 rank list will be prepared by the authorities. Candidates whose name will be listed in the rank list will be able to register and fill choices for JoSAA 2020 counseling for seat allotment process into the participating institutes.

  • Common Rank List – This rank list will consist of the candidates belonging to all the categories for JEE; GEN, GEN-PwD, OBC-NCL, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC, SC-PwD, ST or ST-PwD.
  • Common Rank PwD – Following categories are involved; General-PwD, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC-PwD, ST-PwD.
  • OBC – NCL – Following categories are involved; OBC-NCL and OBC-NCL PwD candidates.
  • OBC – NCL – PwD – The following categories are involved; Other Backward Caste candidates who belong to Non-Creamy Layer and are Person with Disability.
  • SC – The Scheduled Caste candidate.
  • ST – The Scheduled Tribe Candidates.
  • PwD – The Person with Disability would be ranked separately from the NTA.

Mock Allotment of JoSAA 2020

JoSAA will conduct the Seat Allotment for the candidates going through JEE Main Counseling 2020. But, before conducting the actual seat allocation round, authorities will conduct the JoSAA 2020  mock allotment. With the help of mock allotment, candidates will be able to know their chances in their desired colleges based on their rank and preference. Once knowing this, candidates will be able to modify their selected choices of colleges and courses accordingly. After the declaration of mock allotment result candidates will be given enough time to modify their preference.

JoSAA 2020  Counseling

Joint Seat Allotment Authority will be conducting the JoSAA 2020 Counselling Procedure for the candidates who appeared in the examination of JEE Main 2020/ JEE Advanced 2020 . The candidates would Register through the JoSAA Registration 2020 and then fill in their selections for JoSAA 2020 Choice Filling. The candidates would be required to save in their preferences through JoSAA 2020 Choice Locking and then the candidates would be called in for JoSAA Counseling 2020 based on the JoSAA Rank List 2020. JoSAA Counseling 2020 Round – wise

Joint Seat Allotment Authority through its official website @ josaa.nic.in will conduct 7 rounds of Counseling approximately. For each round, JoSAA will release the Opening and the Closing Ranks acceptable by the respective colleges for each Academic course available in the Institute. The candidates can appear in these Counseling procedures based on their Ranks and the Ranks eligible for Seat Allotment in the respective Counseling session. However, if a candidate is not satisfied with the seat allotted to him/her they will have the following options to carry out.

  • FloatingThis option is for those candidates who wish to accept the offered seat but also looking for an upgrade if admissions are open in a better/higher preferred institute or course.
  • Freezing: If a candidate exercises this option, it will indicate that the candidate has accepted the allotted seats and do not wish to participate in further rounds.
  • Sliding: If this option used, it will mean that candidates have accepted the allotted seat, however, if admissions are open in a better course in the same institute then he/she will go for an upgrade.

Thus, all the candidates will have to report to their allotted institutes to confirm their admission by paying remaining academic fees.

JoSAA Spot Counseling

The candidates who were earlier unable to register themselves for the JoSAA 2020, will have an opportunity to go through the JoSAA 2020 Spot Counselling. This facility is provided under certain conditions as if the seats remain vacant after the completion of all rounds of COunseling for IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. The candidates can check the list of availability of the seats for the JoSAA Spot Counseling on the official website @josaa.nic.in of the Authority before the Counseling is actually conducted

The candidates visit the Reporting Center Directly and the Spot Counseling is conducted for them hence the name.

JoSAA Special Counseling

Conducted by Central Seat Allotment Board (CSAB), JoSAA Special COunselling is conducted for the seats left out by the candidates who withdrew their Admissions or Seat confirmation after all the counseling procedure. These seats are randomly left by the institutes and will be filled in by CSAB itself. The candidates who were allotted the seats earlier during the Counseling rounds but did not confirm their seats will not be eligible for the Special COunseling.

JoSAA Reporting Centres 2020

After all these procedure candidates have to visit the reporting centre physically to verify the documents. This is an important procedure which the allotted candidates have to fulfill in order to take admission in the institute. Original and photocopies of the documents have to be carried out by the candidates to the reporting centres. Reporting centres will be for NITs, IIITs and GFITs. When the verification process is complete, candidates have to complete their admission procedure.

If a situation arises where there is a change in seat allotment of the candidates then they have to report to the concerned authority. Failing to report will lead to cancellation of the allotted seat.
