JoSAA 2020 Seat Allotment Dates

All candidates who will register themselves for JoSAA 2020 should know the important dates. It will guide them for the upcoming event. Here we are providing all the important dates of JoSAA Seat Allotment 2020 for the candidates in the following table.

JoSAA seat allotment 2020 process will be conducted for all those candidates who will clear the JEE Mains or qualify JEE advanced exam. Before understanding the Seat Allotment Process you need to know what are the Pre-steps.


First, students must register themselves for JoSAA 2020 Registration to take part in the seat allotment process. For registration, Candidates must log in to their account using their JEE Main credentials and fill in the JoSAA 2020 Seat Allotment Form with the basic details such as state, eligibility code, contact information, etc.

Choice Filling

The candidates must fill in their choices for the Seats/Colleges/Academic Programme. Fill in the choices during the Registration process itself where the candidates have to fill in 4 choices, and arrange them in the sequence of preferences.

Choice Locking

After filling the choices, the student will have to lock the same for the JoSAA 2020 seat allotment. In case, if any candidate does not lock his/ her choices, then their last saved choices will be locked automatically when the time window for the filling in of choices closes.

JoSAA 2020 Seat Allotment 

Before the final JoSAA Seat Allotment, there will be two mock rounds conducted for counselling. JoSAA will conduct 2 mock rounds for students to get familiarised with the choice filled and JoSAA seat allotment process 2020. After the mock rounds, a total of 6 rounds of seat allotment will take place and candidates will have to take a decision on the seat allocated to them.

Candidates can check their seat allotment result from the official website. The candidates would be required to visit the official website, log into the portal and check their JoSAA Seat Allotment Result 2020 for Round 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th

Seat Acceptance

If aspirants get the desired seat, then they can pay the seat acceptance fee and report to the reporting centre . In case the candidates are not satisfied with the seat allotted to them then they can exercise the following options.

  • Freezing

This option will be selected when the candidate is satisfied with the allotted seat. This will confirm that the candidates will not participate in the further round of seat allocation. You can confirm that the allotted seat has been taken by you by paying the respective fee.

  • Slide

This option has to be selected if the student accepts their allotted seat but are also open for admission into a higher preferred course in the same college.

  • Floating

This option will indicate that the student wishes to accept the present allocated seat but is also looking for an up-gradation if admissions are open in a better/ higher preferred institute and course.

Note: In case of Floating, students will be allotted seats in another college whereas on Sliding they will get  a seat in the same college but different course.

  • Withdrawal of Seats 

The candidates who will  not satisfied with their JoSAA Seat Allotment 2020 and have completed the whole process of Counselling, may cancel their seats. Withdrawal from the selected seat can be done through the official website. Candidates who want to avail “withdraw” option must fill-in the requisite details (bank A/c No and canceled cheque JPG image along with few basic details) online, generate Withdrawal Request Letter and carry the same to an RC for final formalities. Withdrawal cannot be processed without reporting at an RC.

Reporting To The College

If the candidate opted for freeze option then it will be considered that he/she is satisfied with allotted seat. The student must report to the reporting centre for document verification. Finally, he/she must report to the college as per schedule with the required documents and fee. However, the candidate can withdraw an accepted seat up to the sixth round of seat allotment.

JoSAA Seat Allotment 2020 – Withdrawal of Seats

The selected candidate can withdraw his/her allotted seat before the final round of JoSAA seat allotment 2020. To withdraw the seats, candidates have to report to the nearest reporting centre. After withdrawing seat, the candidates will not be eligible for any more rounds of allotment. Those aspirants who withdraw their seats will be refunded the seat acceptance fee after deducting Rs. 1000 as the processing charge.

What Is Dual Allotment ?

Dual Allotment is the process where the candidate gets NIT+ or IIT college or vice versa while one is already provided. Let us understand this in simpler terms. With a round of Seat Allotment, candidate secure their seat and accept it. Also, they have kept the seat as Floating Seat. In this case, they may be allotted a different college, a different course. In this scene, the candidate must appear in the Reporting Center again. This is a must since the Reporting Center for NITs/IIITs/GFTIs is different from that of IITs.

In total there are about 107 Participating Institutes of JoSAA 2020 that allot the seats for admissions in the various Engineering Programmes offered in the Institutes through the Ranks of JEE Main 2020 / JEE Advanced 2020.

List of Document for Verification

The following list of documents must be represented while appearing at the Reporting centers for JoSAA Counselling 2020. Once the JoSAA Seat Allotment 2020 Process is confirmed by the candidate, they must report at the JoSAA Reporting Centre. For IITs,  reporting centers are different from the rest of the NIT+ Participating Institutes. Remember to keep these important documents for the verification. Carry all these documents in original and 2 photocopies.

For IITs

  • Two Passport Size Photographs identical to JEE Advanced 2020 registration
  • Undertaking by the Candidate
  • Proof of Seat Acceptance Fee Payment by e-challan or net banking of SBI (Rs. 15, 000 for SC/ST/PwD candidates and Rs. 35,000 for others)
  • Valid Photo Identity Card
  • JEE Advanced 2020 Admit Card
  • Date of Birth Proof (10th Standard Mark Sheet)
  • 12th Standard (or equivalent) Mark Sheet and Pass Certificate
